I’m Courtney, a home cook, cookbook collector, and mom cooking for a busy family.
Cooked From the Book started as a response to overload.
Between cookbooks, blogs, screenshots, and saved links, I had more recipes than I could ever cook, yet deciding what to make felt harder every week. There were too many good options, and decision fatigue is real.
Cooking for a family with kids adds another layer. Too often I found myself making two dinners: chicken nuggets and mac n’ cheese for the kids, and something different for the adults. The recipes shared here are chosen with the goal of making one dinner that works for everyone at the table.
That doesn’t mean compromising on flavor or defaulting to kid food. It means finding meals that appeal to adults, are acceptable to finicky eaters, and still feel like a healthy choice for my family.
Most recipes on this site come from cookbooks I love. I cook them in a real home kitchen, often on busy weeknights, and share what actually worked. What you’ll find here are recipes that passed the family test, along with notes from my kitchen and a quick family verdict.
The focus isn’t limited to weeknight dinners. I also share menus and recipes for holidays, birthdays, and gatherings when cooking looks a little different. These posts center on planning for a crowd, choosing recipes that work well together, and creating meals that feel special without becoming overwhelming (and using the good china whenever possible).
I share what’s worked well in my kitchen with the hope that it makes planning and cooking a little easier for someone else.
